Vincent Price Art Museum Foundation - AAPI Community Reception and Private Viewing

  • 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Vincent Price Art Museum

Located on the campus of East Los Angeles College (ELAC), the Vincent Price Art Museum (VPAM) has served as a unique cultural resource for ELAC students and the surrounding communities for over 60 years. VPAM's mission to provide arts access and exposure to these arts underserved audiences makes it an important site where local communities are seen, acknowledged, and their struggles humanized—where the intellectual and cultural production of diverse artists, scholars, cultural workers, and students is given a platform, enabling diverse perspectives and histories to inform a more inclusive understanding.

The museum will have four exhibitions on view for this event including What Would You Say?: Activist Graphics from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, an exhibition that uses case studies from LACMA’s collection to demonstrate how designers and artists championed civil rights, opposed wars and injustice, and pressed for change. Also, a special guided tour will be provided of Kang Seung Lee: The Heart of A Hand, a tribute to pioneering Singaporean choreographer Goh Choo San (1948–1987). Goh choreographed and performed with major ballet companies in Asia, Europe, and North America, yet his legacy is largely absent from US gay, cultural, and dance histories.
